Teen Reach
The Teen Reach program provides services to youth between the ages of 10-17 years of age,
and their families, on a daily basis. These youth/families are experiencing difficulties,
primarily because of environmental factors, that are impeding their ability to move towards
more successful outcomes in areas such as education, peer and adult interactions, familial
relationships, and avoidance of delinquent behavior.
The purpose of the program is to offer youth
a positive and structured alternative to their
involvement in behaviors that are non-productive
and sometimes dangerous. This is accomplished
by providing the youth with critical support and
services, in a safe learning environment, during
the time that they are at highest risk and most
vulnerable. The program’s hours of operation,
(11am -7pm, Monday-Friday, and all school
holidays and in-service days), encompasses
the time-frames that state and Federal studies
have determined are the hours that this
population of youth is most at risk, (3pm -7pm).
The goals of the program are; to maximize/enhance opportunities for academic achievement
among participants, to develop new skills, interests, and friendships among participants
through supervised recreational activities, to promote social interests and talents among
program participants through their involvement with adults serving as positive role models,
and to provide participants with life skill education that discourages risk-taking behaviors.
Services in this program include, but are not limited to, Life skills education, Adult mentoring,
Tutoring, Supervised recreational activities, Advocacy (school/court), Employment training,
Referral and linkage to needed services, Parent Support groups, and Family mediation.
Participants are involved in activities such as dance, drama, sports, culinary arts, sewing,
tutoring, creative writing, arts/crafts, starting your own business, singing, social grace and
etiquette, and field trips.
The Illinois Department of Human Services funds the program.
