Beatrice Caffrey Youth Service, Inc.
Independent Living Programs

This agency’s Supervised Independent Living and Pregnant and Parenting
Programs are comprehensive multi-disciplinary programs for the Department of
Children and Family Services youth. The programs offer on-site centralized
educational opportunities and training, parenting education, vocational training
and services, sex education, social recreation, health monitoring, counseling, life
skills training and additional support services to provide a foundation for youth to
become successful contributing members of society.

This combination offers youth support in completing their high school education
and or vocational goals, as they also learn to manage household costs and
maintain a positive home environment.

The program serves youth between the ages of 18-21 year of age and has a
capacity of (50) participants.

The young people that participate in the program are provided with subsidies for
rent, food, clothing, transportation and personal needs, while they transition from
DCFS's wardship into becoming independent young adults.
The assigned worker is responsible for providing the clients with a means to
secure employment and complete their education, while concurrently helping
them develop skills necessary to ensure that they are equipped to manage the
myriad of complexities that they will encounter as independently functioning
adults.
This program has been in operation for 2 years and has seen a steady increase in
the number of youth participating. Through comprehensive and consistent
outreach efforts by program staff to referral sources the program is now
considered a viable resource for this population of youth in need of independent
living services.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services fund this program.
