Beatrice Caffrey Youth Service (BCYS) supervises the care of hundreds of children in the Chicago land area whom the State of Illinois has removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. BCYS identifies, trains, and licenses foster parents and provide ongoing training and home visits to ensure the well-being of each child in care.
A permanency plan is developed for each child, which may be Return Home, Subsidized Guardianship, or Adoption. Being a foster parent requires a strong commitment to children and a lot of hard work. Children who are suddenly uprooted from their homes are often confused, angry, frustrated, afraid and vulnerable. They need a safe and structured environment in which they can feel loved and well cared for.
At BCYS foster parents are an integral part of the child welfare team. They work closely with the child welfare staff to help assure that the child’s needs are met. Through their love and attention to each child’s needs, foster parents can make a positive and lasting difference in a child’s life.
