The Comprehensive Community Based Youth Service

The Comprehensive Community Based Youth Service, (C.C.B.Y.S.), is a program created to
assist those youth/families that are experiencing an acute crisis situation. The program’s
primary goal is to divert youth from involvement with either of the Juvenile Justice and or
Child Welfare systems because of neglect, abuse, or delinquent behavior.

The program provides clients with an array of services including, but not limited to:
individual/group counseling, family counseling, crisis intervention, case management,
advocacy and referral and linkage to needed resources within the community. Clients
receiving these services are assisted to develop appropriate problem solving techniques,
conflict resolution, and interpersonal communication skills to ensure stabilization within the
family structure.

Program services are available to the community twenty-four hours per day, seven days per
week. Primary direct services are provided from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. An on-
call paging system for “after-hours” emergencies and need for crisis intervention is an integral
part of ensuring that program services are accessible to the community after the office closes
and before it re-opens the next morning. An “after-hours” on call worker responds to all calls
received through the program’s emergency number. The worker is required to respond, via
phone, to the source of the call within (15) minutes and must be on-site of the disruption, in
the event of the need for a crisis intervention within (60) minutes of receiving the call.

The primary source of referrals to the program is Area 1 Police Department at 5101 South
Wentworth. Referrals are also received from area schools, other social service organizations,
directly from the parent(s), or from a youth/parent walking into the agency requesting
services.
The Illinois Department of Human Services funds the program.
